Let’s remind ourselves! The winner is the rider who completes the race as quickly as possible. Every participant’s time for each and every one of the stages is accumulated in order to calculate the total amount of time they needed to finish the race.

The person with the shortest finishing time is proclaimed the winner of the General Classification. Throughout the whole race, the famous yellow jersey goes from one rider to another since it’s the current leader of the General Classification who gets to wear it. However, the question is who’ll get to keep it?

The 2019 edition of Tour de France happened without some of the biggest favourites. After significant injuries due to a crash, Chris Froome, the four-time Tour winner couldn’t make a full recovery for this race, but hopefully, he’ll be participating this year. Last year’s 2020 Tour de France was postponed, starting on 29th August instead of 27th June.

However, we shouldn’t forget that even though all the attention often goes to the yellow jersey winner, his victory is the result of a well-organized team supporting him throughout the race. There are 22 teams composed of 8 riders, which brings us to the number of 176 riders who potentially can be the GC winners.

Tour de France Betting Types

Certain online sportsbooks offer better Tour de France odds than others. However, most of the online operators want you to have all kinds of Tour de France betting types for your enjoyment. Some of the most popular types of bet are the following ones:

Tour de France Outright Winner Odds

For all those who like to keep it simple, Tour de France outright winner is a great option. All you have to do is guess the winner of the competition. We have already described above in the text how the riders compete for victory. Check the table for more information about the current favourites.

Tour de France Match Betting

This is a special type of cycling bet offered by some bookies. The overall result doesn’t impact the outcome of a match bet. This type of cycling bet is conceived as a clash between two rivals and it’s also known as a head-to-head bet.

Usually, the bookmaker itself chooses two participants against one another and you should pick a winner. Regardless of their overall rank, if your chosen participant has a better result than his rival, your match bet is a winning bet.

Tour de France Handicap Betting

Handicap races in cycling exist to encourage the participants. It means that in this type of race riders are given different start times. Since their strength and performance are not the same, the main idea is to make the race fairer. In other words, handicap races bring a slight advantage to less successful riders.

Tour de France includes individual time trials races where riders start at a different time and they race alone without their teammates. That’s why this type of race is also known as the race of truth.

Check the online bookies in order to see if there are some Tour de France odds for handicap races.

Tour de France Top Three and Top Ten

It may seem hard and risky to pick the overall winner, especially at the early stages of the race. That’s why alternative options exist. You can bet on your favourite rider to finish either in the top three or top ten.

Tour de France Points Winner

Points classification is a subsidiary competition for which you can find special Tour de France betting odds. The leader wears a green jersey. It’s also known as a sprinters’ competition, so it can be really exciting to watch. Besides all these Tour de France betting types, race and stage winner bets are among the most common ones. You can also place match bets on every race or stage, predicting either which cyclist will achieve a better position or even which team will better rank.

Some of the bookies also offer special types of bets. For example, will a rider from France win the stage on September 20th, or will the same rider win both Stage 21 and the overall points classification, etc?

Tour de France Betting Tips

Tour de France betting tips can be found all over the Internet. Geraint Thomas is last year’s winner, and according to Tour de France betting odds, he is also one of the top favourites to win in 2021. However, his performance before the race hasn’t been the best. He didn’t manage to complete the Tour de Suisse.

On the other hand, the winner of Tour de Suisse, Egan Bernal is one of the biggest favourites at the moment. During this season, he managed to win Paris-Nice. His results and his talent seem promising, but we shouldn’t forget that there could always be surprises.

Two Slovenian top cyclists, Tadej Pogacar and Primoz Roglic are also considered to be strong candidates for winning the yellow jersey, according to the Tour de France tips. And so is Chris Froome who is keen on obtaining his fifth Tour de France title.

TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 20 BETTING PREVIEW

The time trial starts with 30km of flat to gently rolling terrain nut the real test is the final 6.2km as the riders are required to climb the Planche des Belles Filles. It is not the steepest of the mountains but it has a 8.5% average gradient and a 20% section towards the finish line.

Tour De France Stage 18 Betting Tips Today

The winner of this stage will be a General Classification contender looking to put time into rivals, or a Time-Trial specialists.

Our Stage 20 Favorites

A clash between team-mates Primoz Roglic and Tom Dumoulin should be on the cards. The Slovenian is a better climber than Dumoulin, but the Dutchman has superior time-trial skills than the current yellow jerse.
Tadej Pogacar is also good both at time-trial and climbing but, of course, the UAE captain is not a specialist like Dumoulin although he was very impressive in the Slovenian National Championship.
Astana's Miguel Angel Lopez just 30 seconds back of second-place Pogacar. He should loss time in the first 30 km and the final ascent could not be enough to recover all the gap.
Mikel Landa and Enric Mas will try to overtake Trek-Segafredo’s Richie Porte as these three riders sit in the 4-6 positions and are separated by 1'13'. He clocked in at 9th in last years Tour De France TT, about 10 seconds slower than Porte. The Aussie looks more suited for this stage than his closest rivals.

Long-shots to back?

Richard Carapaz is another rider in the mix to watch because there are a maximum of 10 KoM points atop the climb. Anyway, we expect the INEOS-Grenadiers’s rider to save energies in the first 30km and go full gas only in the final 6 kilometers as times for KoM points are determined only by the times to climb the Planche des Belles Filles.
Wout Van Aert can't be underestimated as he may be the best person to give Roglic instructions after finishing his race.
We also expect a great performance by Michael Kwiatkowski while Pello Bilbao, Soren Kragh Andersen, Thomas De Gendt, Maximilian Schachmann, Jan Polanc and Hugh Carthy are the probable long-shots.
This is Thibaut Pinot’s local climb but the Frenchman is not a time-triallist and his form is absolutely poor this year. His fellow countryman Julian Alaphilippe could finish in the Top 10 but we can't see him beating the favorites.
Marc Hirschi and Sepp Kuss are in great conditions and could surprisingly finish in the top 10.
